Not been riding for the last week and a half as I've been at deaths door with man flu. Today was the first days riding again and god could I ever feel it, its amazing how unfit you get after such a short time.

But on a plus note I got to use my new light today for the first time (deal extreme jobby) and it was fantastic, all I wanted and more, lit up the road so well I could even see a moth heading my way soon to be swallowed so dipped my head for it to bounce off my helmet and when i got home found this

I've had a week off due to Christmas parties so feel unfit due too lack of cycling and gym PLUS a load of booze. Got back on the bike this morning and foud the ride in a little tough but totally loved the ride home despite the sleety drizzle. I find the mornings hard because the first part of my commute is up a slight hill and I find it hard to breathe in the cold air. I'm giving up on the healthy lifestyle for the Xmas period but I'm a bit worried about whether I'm tough enough for jan commutes. How do you guys keep your face and ears warm in the bleak mid?

You probably won't lose much fitness in such a short time. Probably more to do with being ill, you may be functioning but not fully recovered.

If you have had anything like real flu you will be under par on the bike for sometime. Especially in cold weather.

I've got a Gore balaclava. Works a treat! Was about £20 I think, money well spent! Much better than the buff I used to use.

I was surprised today.Just had 4 days off but have been coughing a lot but surprisingly I was good on the bike.Didn't expect that.I struggled last year.So today's commute has been good even with cough.

Glad I rarely booze now,it's definitely helping
