So I got my commuter ready for the morning with all my work gear ( panniers and stuff )( 700*28 smooth road tyres), looked out the window at 430 and saw the snow so didn't want to risk it and just took the car,, tomo I plan on taking the MTb with regular knobblies on , do these work ok in the snow , iv never ridden in the snow before , so du think its a goer or do I have to drive

Knobblies work in fresh snow OK - just watch ICE.

I ended up driving as I lost my bloody cycling glasses (sighted) between the Velodrome and home yesterday. Can't find them. Hissed off as sat stuck in traffic. MTB equipped with studs as well. Frustraited !

Looked outside just now (late commute - lecturers!) and it's the MTB for me. Snowing down so no 700x23 smooth road tyres today.

Knobblies will be much safer and feel very much more secure, but if you want to feel more secure on icy stretches try schwalbe marathon winter tyres or ice spikers , as alluded to in the other threads.

Frost for me up in the midlands this morning. If you've got snow up in Yorkshire I expect we'll be expecting it down here soon. Time to get the studded tyres ordered! And then pray I have the clearance ...

Yeah, no snow here either, being close to london and all that....

However, it was the coldest commute this winter so far - 3 Degrees C!

Some of the roads were gritted though Get that salt away from my Road Bike!

Saw your other post, you should be OK with the clearance if your current bike will take a 38.

Studs don't generally stick out very far- unless the tyres you ordered have ice speedway type spikes.
