The Cambridge Busway opened in 2011: 14-years, 3 deaths, HSE prosecution, and a £6m fine later, last week Cambridgeshire County Council erected these signs on the parallel pathway/maintenance track/bridleway.

I assume this is in reaction to the prosecution - if only Cambridgeshire County Council actually cared.

I'm going to have to mind my speed, and I definitely won't be having a BBQ whilst waiting for a bus.

I'll be heading from Stives to Cambridge in November.. I'll be sure to comply with not riding a horse in a dangerous fashion whilst BBQing burgers as I'll be on my Brommie 😊

My take from that is that you cant go over 15MPH if your bike is plugged into an extension lead, and peds and cyclists must be equipped with forward and rear facing megaphones.

I feel sorry for the horse riders that have to leap over giants holding hands with a normal sized adult.

And its seriously off them instructing riders to wear a helmet - the next sign along tells women to wear chastity belts when travelling the route at night.

Now I have heard F1 driver commenting on detail on a TV screen at the side of the track as they pass at 200 mph

but I am not exactly certain that I could take in an properly analyse that sign as I pass on my bike at 14.9 mph

maybe I would be OK if I stopped and took a pad of paper and some coloured pens out of my backpack and made some notes
I might need a chair as well

And yet no mention of the risk of drowning on the area near Fen Drayton lakes that regularly floods.

What speed are you allowed to ride through the floods and do you need to wear a helmet??

Just had another look and it appears that you are nor allowed to walk or ride a bike on the busway
and the speed limit for bikes is 15mph

and anyway - genuine question - can you have a speed limit for bikes
most "analogue bikes" don't have a speedometer

I understand that the HSE has an enforcement responsibility but it annoys me, when fines are applied in a way that ultimately just moves government funds around for no benefit to anyone.

The Council (which is ultimately funded by central government bar those who do contribute towards council tax) has been fined by a government regulator, so the government has paid itself and in the process cheated the public purse as council tax will go up to cover the cost.

Would it not be better to give the HSE the regulatory power to take control over public authority departments, enforcing improvements and change? A lot of the other regulatory agencies have this power…

The mind boggles.

I was about to ask if they had nothing better to do, but it would be superfluous as they obviously don’t. I’ll just leave this:
‘fur Ihre sicherheit’.

No message about keeping dogs on a short lead and under control? 😲 Surprised they allow horses on it.
There is, on the second square from the top right.

Yes, didn't it read like that at a first glance?
