Bose always 'sounds' great, but I agree. If you're looking for reference or accuracy it's not the best, but Bose does make music that makes your foot tap....
Horses for courses.
Yep, ideal for pubs/clubs but having heard several in domestic situations it's a very 'tiring' sound. Mind you the people who think Bang & Olufsen are 'HiFi' are even more deluded.

I’ve got an old Sony stacker system and I’m thinking of binning it for an upgrade.
I haven’t got a massive budget but been looking at the Denon DM41 and pairing it with a pair of Dali Zensor 1 speakers. I’ve looked at a lot of reviews and have yet to read a negative one about this particular piece of kits build quality, sound, functionality and reliability at this price point. Also been looking at the Marantz CR11 but some say the wifi is unreliable and keeps
dropping out. Anyone had a Denon?
Will link one of the reviews later.

Interesting.....
It is - I'm huge impressed - I have 1,000+ CDs recorded on the hard disk, with plenty room for more (2tb). Internet radio, streaming services, yada yada. I went this route as we had so very many CDs already.
It has become our primary source, using our Mark Levinson CD39 as a DAC, straight into a NAD S200 power amp, and then on to Zingali Overture .2S speakers. It's not outclassed IMHO.

I had a Denon receiver in the past, was ok, but didn't last long.

The Dali speakers always get top reviews.:okay:

For real budget book shelf speakers you couldn't beat the discontinued Gale 3010s marketed by Richer Sounds a few years ago.
I've a pair somewhere, think they were only £40 new , bass is a bit thin but for the money ideal for a medium size room,in the office, man shed etc and should be cheap on fleabay

I got a B&W Zeppelin a few years ago. Might not be saying much but it's the best quality hi-fi I've ever had.

I've got a Cambridge Audio CD and Amp (Topaz) connected to Eltax bookshelf speakers, I've tried moving the speakers a few times but the sound is still generally a tad dead / muffled.

Could it be down to the speaker wires being really long?

No. They can go to about 50,000 miles or something before discernible reduction in sound.

No but if you're using 'bell wire' it won't help on long runs but I suspect the speakers are the main culprit.

With Bose it certainly isn't sound quality.

I reckon Bose sound quality is pretty decent if you want to buy an all-in-one package. But if you want to, and have the time to, mix and match different components, testing them all out, then can get different sound for similar budget.
