So a planned leisurely 20 miles max…..turned into 50k. There’s a surprise hey 😂

7am out the door (To beat an expected ‘mass’ of folk back at work) was unsurprisingly dark, cool and breezy.

This was 5-6 miles up the road in Hopton:

Onto a breezy 😳 Gorleston Sea-Front….

Up the Norfolk Coast; where I spotted this cool car by the river inlet of the Harbour:

Onto Gt Yarmouth. Where I stopped to take this photo. Only to realise there is a young seal in the shot !

Still heading up the Coast - and onto the entrance to the Venetian Waterways:

Through Yarmouth to Caister on Sea:

Where I stopped for a snap infront of the Holy Trinity Church Tower:

A cool’ish, but dry and very enjoyable 50k. And more cake earned 😉

I was trying to avoid a nudge list this month but we have 1 rider yet declared so a nudge required for @bruce1530 . I like a bit of jepody but your getting me worried

I am still thinking of getting one more 50 in before filing my December report.

I go to bed very late every night, which tempted me (very briefly!) to toy with going out at midnight on NYE to get a 2026 50 km ride in before any of you more sane riders did. Then I thought of how cold it will be, and the risk of encountering drunken pedestrians and drivers coming back from NYE parties. So... PASS!

Of course you’d have to hope / make sure you were faster than anyone else trying the same ploy…….😙🙄😉

I am slow these days so even on the flattish** valley roads I would probably not finish before 02:30!

And hope we get no one from the Southern hemisphere join ,they have a distinct advantage at get the first ride in 😁
Australia, New Zealand... - yes; Argentina, Peru... no!

** I just checked... The flattest 50 km ride that I do round here still has 675 m (2,200+ ft) of climbing

Correction! That is a slightly more interesting variation which includes some of the smaller local hills.

My flattest 50 actually has 360 m (1,180 ft) of ascent. I have done that in 2.5 hours without trying too hard, so I could probably get close to 2 hours if I put in a big effort. I might make that one of my fitness goals for 2026. I will be 70 years old in less than a month (how did that happen so soon?!!!) so any speed/distance goals had better be tackled sooner rather than later!
