Round here, it depends what the food is. If I dropped a bit of buttered toast and it landed bread side down, I would eat it without a second thought. If it landed butter side down, I reckon it would lift a whole lot of mank from the floor, and I'd bin it.

As others have said, the 5 or 25 second rule is rubbish. Just eat it. I don't have any pets, so dog and cat hair isn't a problem.

Floor conditions are critical. Tiles (unless next to the lavatory) are pretty good for food reclamation, carpets less so. Having been a slum-dweller for the last four decades, I have a pretty good idea of the level of mank in each room. My immune system is in top-top condition BTW.

I think it is disgusting to eat food straight from the floor. You have to do a quick inspection to remove visible dirt and hairs first.

I always blow on things first, which removes any germs . I'd probably not eat anything that had been trodden on as I'm a bit OCD about these things.
