Saw yet another list the other day which had Slash at No1, I ask you!!

Some people can never look beyond the obvious - I'm not saying Hendrix was rubbish because he wasn't, Chuck Berry blows Keith Richards away and I can never work out why KR is always above him - seen 'Hail Hail Rock and Roll' where Chuck is frustrated that KR just can't get it! Slowhand has arguably done nothing since Cream - even Duane did the hard work on Layla.

Here's a, not definitive, top 10 of a few I like that don't always get a mention. Got any others?

1 - Leo Kottke - Great acoustic guitarist, sounds like there's two of them!

2 - Mason Ruffner - Great Texan guitarist

3 - Bobby Neal - Rick Nelson's guitarist - died in the same plane crash that killed RN. James Burton was, of course, RN's original guitarist - but this guy was pretty good too I think.

4 - Jimmy Vaughan - SRV's brother and the original Fabulous Thunderbirds guitarist - Powerful Stuff's my fave track - brilliant live band.

5 - Steve Young - difficult to track down good youtube footage of this guy, but I tell you see him live or catch his records - superb stuff!

6 - Dickie Betts - Founder member of the Allman Brothers and just a great axe man!!

7 - Jerry Reed - Great great guitarist - you'll have seen him play Bama McCall in 'Gator'. Elvis got him in to play the guitar on 'Guitar Man' - here he is keeping up with Chet.

8 - Mike Campbell - Tom Petty's guitarist and much much more....

9 - Michael Chapman - great stuff, went to see Tony Joe White a few years ago and MC was the unadvertised support, he's superb!

10 - Wilko Johnson - Dr Feelgood with Lee and Wilko, got anything better? No, didn't think so!!

One of my favourites is Johnny Marr.

Also like John Squire (Stone Roses, Sea Horses)

Would post more but my wife is drawing me looks because she wants us to watch a film....

Steve Hackett and Anthony Phillips.
Both of early Genesis 'fame'.

Rather strangely I'd like to add Nick Kershaw to the list.
For all his 80's pop toons he plays a slick bit of guitar and was inspired by the likes of Alan Holdsworth.;)

Steve Gaines - played on Skynyrd's One More For The Road and Street Survivors. Check out his singing and song-writing, too. But his picking on those albums is immense and always makes my wonder what could have been.
