So, I saw Wilco Johnson last night and he was really, really good. And as an added bonus, Norman Watt-Roy WAS on bass! They are a three piece and are absolutely excellent; I'd recommend them to anyone. AND I got a snog off opening act, Connie Lush! Well first it was a peck on the cheek but later on she told me I'd given her the biggest compliment anyone could have and she pashed me. Which was nice!

As it's an alternative list I'll mention Gordon Giltrap as a contender - certainly not mainstream.

His playing is certainly impressive, even if it's not to everyone's taste.

I don't think I've seen Rev Gary Davis mentioned yet either.

I like Marc Ford (former Black Crowe). I also like it when people make weird sounds with a guitar such as Tom Morello and Graham Coxon (e.g Coffee & TV).

John Mayo (who replaced Wilco Johnson in Dr Feelgood) his solo on Shotgun Blues is just perfect.

Nobody's mentioned Jeff Beck yet, surely the most creative of the "Guitar Gods".

Kenny Burrell for bluesy jazz (try the Midnight Blue album).

Jan Akkerman if only for Focus's third album.

The bloke who was in The Only Ones.

There are of course zillions more ...

Noel Gallagher probably best guitarist.

At the moment it's Bert Jansch, Davey Graham, and John Renbourn. But like most favourite things it changes from day to day.

Saw Bert Jansch perform once about 5 feet away . Awesome. He was playing 'The Gardener ' song where he kept moving the capo up and down the frets whilst picking .It sounded like 3x people playing at once. John & Bert together are great. Did you ever hear of a guy called Kevin Coyne ?
weird but gifted.

I was listening to him last night. I still have no idea how to pronounce his name, or whether the letters are in the correct order!
