I've just been given the February 1977 issue of "The Scots Magazine" which contains an article about, and interview with, Tom Chambers, a Glaswegian who at that time held the Guinness record for cycling miles (nearly 800,000). He only used a single fixed or freewheel bike, and kept detailed diaries of all his trips, including the cost. (His total calculated expenses for the 800,000 miles was £582).
He said of cars "They are noisy, smelly, costly and harmful to people, especially cyclists."
Has anyone else come across him?
