2027 [Edit: or 2026 perhaps] Lunacy Challenge completed. That's eight now. I was rather hoping for some summery, warm weather today, as indeed was forecast, but it was 11-17C, mostly cloudy, and with a distinctly chilly wind. At least there was only the lightest of brief showers, so I'm not complaining much. That's also my stretch target of 100 miles, so I shall carry on just adding 100 mile rides, possibly with the odd 200km, but I don't imagine I'll manage another eight in the next few months.

Congratulations - I think you win the cigar this year.
I missed all the rain today - this afternoon was distinctly warmer than the morning.

6th ride today. Weird weather, started out 30C, rising to 33 after a few miles, with wall to wall sunshine.

Then as I was leaving Llantwit Major it started to rain, temperature fell fairly quickly, ending up about 23C.

Wet roads caught me out, not yet used to the grip characteristics of these GP5000 tyres (compared to the Marathon+ I had until a few weeks ago), and came off at fairly high speed coming down watery lane, when I braked too hard for the conditions, and locked the back wheel - on a slight left hand bend, so it just slid away from under me.

No serious damage to me - grazes on left hip knee and elbow, bruised hip and slightly bruised ribs. And no damage to the bike, as it came done on the non-drive side. Surprised how little it stung when I got i the bath.

Heal well !

I thought you were going to say that GP5000s had less grip than Marathon+ for a while there, but in fact it was a 'too much grip' issue, which is novel.

I'm not convinced that wet grip is actually better - and not sure how locking the back wheel means too much grip!

In the dry, I'd definitely have managed that level of braking, with either tyre. I'm not convinced the marathons would have skidded as much on the wet (more damp really) road. But it's possible there was something on the road that made it more slippery than I expected.

Hope it continues to not hurt
