Christmas came early for the Australians as England presented them with a ridiculously easy victory.

Could be a defining moment in Ashes history: England, after the first day, looked to have the upper hand and should have made far more of the situation with a victory giving them an unbeatable lead.

Australia will be difficult to subdue now, and there's only one side looking forward to the Melbourne Test starting on Boxing Day!.

Oh dear! It had to happen!

80+ runs in arrears and will probably be facing a big total to chase and (if there isn't a major improvement in the batting) and a big defeat!

Not looking too promising!

Does it rain much in Perth?

The writing was on the wall forum for the motley crew...R&R for Dayvo today.

Well done Aus.

Yup, that was a pretty spectacular crash against a rudely awakened Aussie team. So they'll be up for Boxing Day but I don't think England will be down - probably more stunned than anything. Strauss seemed to have judged his response pretty well and the team's been resilient throughout this tour. I reckon both teams will be all fired up - it could be a classic battle.

They've got it too cushy!

They're out deep sea fishing or playing golf, visiting vineyards etc. They are there to play cricket and defend the Ashes FFS!

They waltz around in their sponsored gear counting their spondoolies and occasionally play a game of cricket!

Same old same old!

Alarm Bells are ringing with no Prior warning, better hide in the Anderson shelter, no Swansong likely, Tremble it for sure, a swift Finnish.

Don't despair rich / we'll Cook up a plan by Boxing day.

And we'll Pietersen them. (I'm not sure about that second pun - the 1st was poor, the second was desparation)

I doubt if he is a 100% fit, or comfortable, with a broken little finger on his left hand! I think it'll ge more of a problem for him if he were to field in the slips.

Should Australia not win back the Ashes, then I suspect Ponting will either resign or be sacked as captain, so I'm pretty sure that he managed to 'convince' the selectors that he was up to the task of leading and being able to bat at no. 3.

Should be a cracking Test with everything to play for!

Past clip of Collingwood dynamically pouching Hayden features in this week's Guardian list of 'sport videos'. Also features a cage fighter type of person - disgusting.

Come on England, do your best!

Right, I'm a bit drunk, but it really does seem that Australia really have been bowled out before tea on the first day for under 100. When they were still 9 wickets down I started a little private sing-song. I wonder what the 2nd day will bring...

On the first day at Melbourne my true love sent to me...

11 Aussies cussing
10 runs for Ponting
9 wickets falling
8 runs for Hussey
7 for 77
6 for 77
5 caught behinds
4 wickets for Anderson
3 scalps for Tremlett
2 batting sessions
And they still haven't scored a ton!
