I agree (and disagree with Crock). The numbers don't lie - England are on top and cannot, surely, lose this test, but Australia are still capable of batting for six or seven sessions unless there is something in the pitch for Swann.

I wouldn't be surprised to see England declare midway between lunch and tea tomorrow. They might have another 125 on the board by then, giving them a lead of 470 or so. Strauss could then afford to attack.

As it stands he's been fined 40% of his match fee - he's gonna miss that £3.50!

Apparently the 'hot spot' cameraman was temporarily blinded when inadvertently filming Ponting's head.

I reckon finger pointing qualifies for level 2, he got off lightly.

I agree! That was a red card offence, in footballing terms!

Yep, the plan has to be for England only to bat once. Get a good lead to take the game (hopefully!) beyond Aussie making them bat to save it. Don't be surprised if there's a few England wickets tomorrow morning as they attempt to build a big score. Then with the time and an attack attack attack philosophy, England should be able to pressure the Aussies and bowl them out again.

I don't think Ponting's indiscretion was that serious. It's not in the same league as Mike Gatting pushing the umpire.

I think that, in terms of cricketing etiquette, Ponting's behaviour was beyond the pale. He went on too long and too far when Aleem Dar wasn't even the guy who'd made a decision.
I wouldn't want him banned, just stripped bare, tarred and feathered and sent to a former colonial power as punishment to finish his playing career in the county championship for a southern based county.

I played there once, and the old adage applied - except the dog was missing. I got a lovely Martlets sweater though.

Monsieur Crock was right and I was wrong. Asutralia are bewitched, and bewildered. I got up to hear Ponting go, and in the short time it's taken me to get to work another couple of wickets have gone (including Hussey for a duck). Five wickets remain. Swann is bowling like a dream - he sent down 23 successive dot balls.

It's all over bar the triumphal progress through Earls Court.

and I think that the Australians have a player injured - Harris - and unlikely to come to the crease. The morning session should be enough.........

Siddle finished with some credit, I read. Also, Australia were cracking on at six an over...and then a needless run out. How disheartening for a team.

Edit: Unashamedly pinched from the Guardian blog is this Reportage of the match days (teensy bit of swearing) - alternative point of view that 'puts you there'.

You have to feel sorry for Australia being humbled and about to lose the their third Ashes series out of four.
