if you have the Ashes you only have to draw the series to keep them. England can do no worse than draw, so the Ashes remain with us. And Australia is bereft. Quite, quite, quite bereft.

Who was is who predicted 5-0 to Australia?

An innings and 157 runs: pretty emphatic.

Just need to get rid of Bell and hope Collingwood finds form and we'll have a good a team as is possible!

How did you manage to win the sweep, Rich?

As Bayerd said, it was a pitifully small entry but a win's a win!

My guess is that loyalty will see Colly retained for Sydney, especially as he's 20/20 captain after that, and then dropped from the test team next year.

Such a great result. Very happy indeed. Seeing Ponting being interviewed this morning, he look's like a broken man.

It's a delight to see the England team perform as a team. I really hope the momentum can be maintained. Seems to me that we've had a few false dawns in the past.

But, my lord, aren't the Aussies in poor shape at the moment?

Apparentlyit's all Ponting's fault! The Sydney Morning Herald gets to grips with events...pretty honest evaluation by Ponting - none of this "even in defeat we can take the positives etc" gobbledegook to appease the PR 'people'.
AND.
Has anyone seen 'The Sprinkler'? It is new to me!

And if anyone is feeling a 'bit sorry for Aussie' then remember this.

I was watching live (not at the ground, on tele). In fairness, many Aussies were appalled at the time too and, as I recall, it was captain's orders. It certainly came into a mass of criticism in Aus following. It ain't fair dinkum.

Very good! (At least the NZ cricketers hadn't choked themselves by that stage...unlike their rugby world cup counterparts )

I'm only joking - before darkstar comes on and starts again...

Agree totally, Andrew. Rod Marsh was less than impressed at the time judging by that clip of film.

All in, it is odd how 'we' "love" that old enemy confrontation in sport; this series, NZ v Aus rugby matches of both codes, Utd v City, India v Pakistan, Croatia v Serbia - lots of other things I'm sure. It wasn't like this in the days of Ron Knee and Neasden F.C., where the Corinthian spirit grew large.
And I hope the Aus and Eng lads had a real get-together earlier today and are sleeping well at the moment.
