Hi All,
I hope you are well. Do you know what is the exact meaning / definition of these bars on Bosch Intuvia display?
I know this is to do with how much assistance you get from the electric engine at a given moment but is there any unit of measurement behind it?
ECO - 40% of assistance
TOUR - 100%
SPORT - 180%
TURBO - 270%

Thanks

I have only ridden Bosch a few times but isn't it measured in Watts? That was certainly the impression I got from the line graph shaped like a o_

Dogtrousers

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
In general terms the % assistance is a % of the total assist available. So Eco offers 40% of the assistance available, Turbo offers 270% of the assistance available. But the amount of actual power delivered depends on the motor and the battery.

I'm sure this really does make sense, but I can't figure it out. How can it offer more than what is available?

Turbo offers you a ton of assistance, but when you select it, it says "sorry, that's not available"? Kind of "jam tomorrow" sort of thing?

I have a Raleigh Motus Active Line with Bosch Intuvia.

But the amount of actual power delivered depends on the motor and the battery. Your bike should have a manual which will tell you the figures and this site (I'm sure Bosch has one as well but I couldn't find it just now) explains in more detail https://www.freeborn.co.uk/help/bosch-assistance-modes-explained.

It can get quite complicated at first as depending on the system it's possible to customize the assistance given, either through the app or the device. Bug enerally I've found but generally I found when first using the bike that experimenting with all modes was best.

I can't customize my levels but I found as a guide Eco I use all the time, and when loaded with panniers or trailer is fine on flats or gentle hills. Tour I used more on steeper ascents, or when loaded on most surfaces (I've used a trailer with my bike hauling 30kg or more - very useful!). Sport I've rarely used but Turbo I have for very steep ascents or when starting off with a very heavy load.

That web site is interesting

It explains why Turbo (that I hardly ever use) sometimes feels like it is helping a lot - and sometime doesn't

I do find that highish cadence is best on mine

powering up a hill standing on teh pedals and turning them slowly doesn;t get you the assistance you expect
change down and you get more

or so it seems - by that time I am too k******d to think properly!

Does yours not whine at you to change down? The last one I rode kept telling me to. Even when assistance was off!

Mine does, I think I can turn that 'feature' off though.

What model motor and controller?

Hi again All,
I meant these bars on Intuvia. Wondering what is this about? What is the unit of the bar? I think there is 12 bars in total.

Its the drive assistance indicator, its a guide as to how much power is being applied at any time. Have a look a it when you are riding flat, it's probably low as you may not need much help, when you go uphill it could rise as you need more assistance.
I understand the basics of it but wonder what is the intelligence behind it. I think it takes into account the speed and how much force is put on the pedals. Depending on the mode it provides more or less assistance. By looking at it I still don't fully understand it.
I reckon there isn't a single standard how pedal assistance works and different vendors do it differently but in the case of Bosch it is a black box, right?

My favourite mode is eMTB, because it reacts to pedal pressure very quickly so feels very natural, except you feel like you've suddenly grown bionic legs! Going up a 20% rocky slope at a rate of knots does make you grin.

Performance Line CX but I only have the basic Purion display

I was going to upgrade to a Purion 200, the one which is controls and display in one, but the bike shop wanted £150 for it and since they're not chasing me to tell me they have them in stock, I think I'll leave it.

The LBS might not be trying to rip you off there
Bosch are notorious for charging a lot for genuine bits ans stuff

I took my bike to the LBS a while ago because of some minor non-ebike type problem
when I got there I also told him that the ebike system was not working but not to bother with that because I had noticed that the magnet on the back wheel was missing

He checked the price anyway and told me - it was non trivial
I just got a basic one off the WWW and that works fine
if it was the detector it would have been a fair bit more expensive!!
