I was sitting on the trike on saturday waiting for my ride companion, and an old chap came up to me - I recognised him from somewhere, but I'm not sure where. He said hello, and then, with no further preamble, "So they haven't quite got the steering geometry right on that then..."

"Er.... haven't they?"

"No, you can see it's scrubbing the side of the tyres.".

Right. Well, it rides ok to me, and any scuffs on the sides of the tyres (they don't look any more worn than my upright's tyres) I've assumed are down to very tight turns at speed, when the wheels do tend to cant over a bit. In normal running, it's absolutely fine, and I'm not entirely chuffed to have it criticised.

And then he banged on for some minutes about his upright tricycle racing days.

Annoyingly, at the same time, another chap was hovering, looking interested in the trike, and I think I'd much rather have been talking to him about it, than listening to this old guy who just wanted to talk at me.

Nice video... Its nice to see the standard quality of our uk road surface is still the same in Glasgow as it seems to be everywhere else in the uk.. thats where it become quite ironic when people tell us we don't pay road tax so we shouldn't be on the roads.. think im gonna start shouting back well get the f***ing roads fixed then...lol

Older gentlemen and ladies have very few instances where they can engage with people - kids left home, widowed and plenty of leisure time on their hands, so when I get caught up with someone, I find it hugely satisfying.

You'd be surprised at the level of wordly wisdom they can pass on.

Indeed, and a nice chat is one thing, but it wasn't really a conversation, he just talked at me. That, and his opening line being to critisise my trike, put me a bit on edge.

pokypete - well, a girl's got to keep her options open... ;) Nah, it was just that he looked like he'd like to ask me about the trike, but couldn't get a word in because I was being polite and listening to the other chap.

The good thing about talking to older people is that if you do explain something they will most likely actually listen and take what you say on board as opposed to many younger people who'll simply get defensive and use ever more tenuous and desperate rhetoric to prove they're in the right.

Paint that blue and you have a superhighway!

Paint that blue in Glasgow and you'll have half the city rioting ;)

If he really was retired, perhaps he had a bus pass. In that case, you'd be funding his commute through your taxes. Perhaps you should have advised him on bus routes and how to get on and off the bus correctly.

Hey - I've got a bus pass and I'm not that old. It's the really old guys I was talking about.;)
