At LCT in the 80s we had a ticket inspector who was the spitting image of Blakey.
The 1986 deregulation of buses did more damage than good. Prior to it coming in South Notts were held in Nottingham as an example of what to expect, low fares and conductor operation.
Of course as soon as deregulation occurred they came under competition, went one man, made a loss for the first time ever and sold up.
Then theirs the increased nunber of services having to funded by Councils. Classic example of this is Harrogate to Wetherby where a commercial mainly half hourly service ran along the village roads rather than the A road for a good chunk of the route. 7 days and hourly evenings and Sundays.
In comes a competitor running along the A road. A "bus war" breaks out with the ultimate result of all commercially operated services running along the A road. The council funding an hourly daytime Monday to Friday service via the vilage roads. Theres one each way on a Saturday and none on Sundays. Advantage to cyclists is NCN67 follows the villlage roads so less chance of encountering a bus on a narrow road.

I too started work as a bus mechanic working for South Yorkshire Motors Pontefract ( although Pontefract is in West Yorkshire) a lot of bus enthusiasts used to turn up to photograph this bus. This info is from Dewsbury Bus Museum Website.
Technical details:
Chassis - Albion Valiant CX39N, 60309D
Body - Roe GO4561 (May 1958)
Date new - November 1950
TWY 8 is a rebodied chassis. The chassis was originally under a Burlingham coach body, numbered 57 in the fleet of South Yorkshire Motors, and registered JWT 112.
The chassis was used to construct South Yorkshire Motors (Pontefract) number 81 (TWY 8) in 1958. The double-deck body was built by Roe of Leeds to a L27/26RD layout. The original Burlingham body was fitted to South Yorkshire Motors 51, which became number 57 and registered as DYG 53. This vehicle also still survives today in preservation.
Following a full mechanical overall TWY 8 passed her MOT on 14th April 2010, some 29 years after the last one expired! Credit is due to Andrew Beever and a few other dedicated members for a year's hard graft.
The bus carried her first passengers on the 2010 Arriva Tour and continues to be a regular attendee at many local events and she continues to be a regular performer at our open days.

Whilst exploring an abandoned airfield a few years ago, my pals & I came across an AEC Routemaster behind a hangar.
I jumped into the cab and spied a big red button by the driver's seat. ' Wonder what this does - ?' I thought and pressed it.
It was the start button - ! Ooops - !
Fortunately I hadn't pressed on it long enough for the engine to actually fire up, but still gave me a a scare - !

Sad story due to trespassers. A group of school kids managed to get into the museum at Ruddington Nottingham. It started to rain so they got into one of the buses and feeling cold decided to start a fire... A number of buses destroyed including the last built Albion Lowlander LNN89E and the last built Fleetline SCH117X, both new to South Notts of Gotham with fleet numbers as per those of the registrations

When it was my daughters 'prom' (such an odd import from America), she knew someone who'd restored a bus, as her (home-care) company looked after his mother
Normally he turns down any requests for use for a party/celebration/schools/etc, but he made an exception
I'm not sure if it's right to put the photos we have on here, but suffice to say, the entire year group fitted on a double-decker (& none standing)
