Yes, what you saw would all have been true, over 100 people burnt to death, with not all dwellings investigated yet. Over a hundred people with the severest sort of burns (collapse of internal organs, burning of respiratory tracts, bodies frozen in physical shock). Its comparison with a war zone gives plenty to contemplate. And yet, just as in war there occur incidents of irony, so too here - a husband was trapped in the Queensland floods while his wife was trapped in the Victorian bushfires.
(And now to listen to "Third Policeman" on the ABC, and ponder how to bring The Chain back to C&W, gospel, R&B, and of course jazz of the 60's.)
