I saw the first Christmas things in the shops at least a month ago.

But no houses with Christmas lights on yet. Most of the ones who would still have pumpkins or witches stuff up. Those will be switched out for Christmas stuff next week I expect.

I've been seeing halloween stuff fora good month, daft imported American rubbish that it is.

many moons ago walking the beat in a less than salubrious neighbourhood I once spotted christmas decorations on one house at the tail end of august.

A local group have been advertising Hogmanay celebrations but since they are 21 miles away I am not going to look for decorations which is just an extension of Christmas stuff.
When I worked as a postman I had a half day off on Christmas day after doing my normal morning delivery.
How things change.

I don't ever remember post being delivered on Christmas day, so that must have been a LONG time ago.

It's almost like a disease (the desire to buy stuff for the kids)
We have already agreed, there are going to be far less presents for the two grand kids living with us (and the rest of them tbf). Why ?. Because there's a box of toys in the spare room we've all agreed needs going through and sorting out, there's probably 50% + of them that have had very little or no use, some have not even been opened since last Xmas (it's been a funny year for the girls, very disjointed so perhaps not surprising)

My wife is terrible for it, Temu et Al, a lot of it is just garbage.

And (imho) kids just don't play with stuff as much nowadays, it's like you get that immediate excitement and fun from a new toy...but it now fades very quickly.
