For those grumpy forummers that find modern Christmas just too lacking in joy, or just annoying, depressing, commercial yadda, yadda, yadda....

what's this tosh about Christmas?

That irritating music that plays constantly from now onwards, various Z list celebs turning on street christmas lights, shop managers rubbing their hands with glee at all the desperate people trying to get presents "please sir, do you have a non battery operated zapp toy for Billy Jnr", those pathetic cola ads that make me want to hurl, people telling me "smile, it's Christmas" or the overuse of the words 'jolly', 'with bells on' and 'merriment'. Everything smelling like cinnamon and mulled wine, out of tune carol singers knocking on the door, tinsel deely-bopper things complete with inane grins yelling 'I'm MMMMAAADDD ME', marketing companies telling families we must all get along, awful tv and a general sense of BAAAAAAAAAHH HUMBUG!

Me grumpy...only at this time of year! The only part I like is the eating...!LOL

Being of a certain age I can say with some certainty that:
I've had enough turkey dinners for two lifetimes.
That any sane person has heard Wizard, Slade et al enough for three lifetimes.
That modern day Christmas TV is rubbish.
That Christmas decorations at work are a fire hazard. (Safety officer:whistle:)
That mulled wine is just wrong.

Indeed if it wasn't for the mince pies and the total joy on kids faces I'd give it a miss.

@ttcycle the only thing good about christmas is the food IMO.

I'm sitting here planning my christmas menu

Yep, the foods OK, but not Turkey, that's an over-rated abomination, why people pay good money to put the worst bird to eat as the centre-piece of the biggest meal of the day is beyond me.

Christmas Carols and midnight mass with friends are amongst the best things for me.

With the expception of Doctor Who, obviously.

mmmm food..that's what it's about - turkey is overrated FF.

Also about spending time with people I want to be with - wrapping up warm and going for a winter walk somewhere nice..understated but great.

It's what you make it

The commercialisation kills it - Argos et al acting as if they invented it ffs.

I do however enjoy a bit of time off work (appreciated all the more now I don't do call out), the dreaded family get together, turkey sandwiches and falling asleep after eating too much. Great.

One ray of hope - there's another Royle Family special on TV.

Apart from that, roll on January. Days get longer, take down the decorations, get rid of the tree, hundreds of days till next Christmas, bah humbug.
