Mine are just over a mile away at the allotment . I can normally leave them to it but ive not long put two new polands in there and one little hen keeps getting booted off the sleeping quarters so I go down to make sure the rest are keeping her warm . Im a good chicken daddy like that![]()

I built mine a little shed and used some sash windows I miss madeWe only have to go about 50 feet into the garden to check on ours. There is a downstairs and an upstairs in the chicken house, and we leave a small light on as well. Our chickens tend to cuddle up together to keep warm.
Yes , I have 10 layers and two that are not laying yet . I get between 6 - 8 per day on average but some are suffolks so don't lay every day but the eggs are nicer .Are you still getting eggs from your hens?

We have Marins? We have 5 hens. They are quite young but we get between 2 and 4 eggs per day. If it gets too cold will it stop them from laying? Good point. I'm going to require some kind of face mask when I need to rob a bank to pay the heating bill.
