Video doesn't really tell any story atall. Apart from a copper racing towards the car and then starts smashing the window for no apparent reason. No request for the occupant to get out, just wades in and starts beating on the car. And the person looks to be old that they drag out. Weird one that!
All I can think of is damage to the car, compo wise. But as I said, it doesn't really say much.

report is here.

The car driver got £65,000 compensation.

The copper got £430,000 in lost pay and pension, due to constructive dismissal. Just goes to show how high the Police pensions are.

IIRC, this is the case where the pensioner wouldn't stop when directed to by the police, something the video clearly shows. Apparently, he thought he was getting an escort home...

The driver clearly failed to stop. Then when stopped, I assume this is standard to get the driver out as quickly as possible incase they then drive off again.
Old guy got exactly what would have been expected.
No less potentially dangerous than a young guy in a corsa.
What an idiot
If you're so oblivious not to notice a police car chasing you then really should he be on the road?

@Beebo

35k pa ish is, I think, 10 years of service pay point for a PC with an expectation, at 42, of working for another 20 years and possibly getting promoted = £700k easily.

£430k seems scant compensation for whilstleblowing on your bosses and getting hounded out of a job you love as a result. A job which doesn't necessarily equip you for an unexpected change in career.

The driver shouldn't have got a penny. Had he not failed to stop then I would agree but that is not the case. He was even found guilty of the offences to top it off.

Interesting story this one.

The 'old chap' the officer pulls out is a very sprightly 74 year old who had previously stopped and driven off and then failed to stop. The investigation, overseen by the IPCC, found that the officer had acted appropriately.
but the video is mysteriously leaked, and the copper gets reassigned and when he complains... "Poof!" up in smoke his career goes.
