Today I rode on the pavement and went through a red light. If anyone knows the new Traffic lights on Ridgeacre Road Quinton I'm sure they will understand about going through red !
Oh and as for the pavement - Main Road is has roadworks is closed 1 way and I didn't fancy being diverted 1 mile for 200 yards of pavement !
Selfish and wrong but there are a few of us commuters who have done it this past week.

Tusk, Tusk, Will1982 really should know better:evil:

Sorry Will could resit, I am sure it wasn't you, Mr Paul would have recognised the buff...

I followed a cyclist up from the OXO (fnar fnar) Tower onto Blackfriars Bridge and while there is a 10ft piece of pavement which leads onto the bridge (and avoids the ped lights) of which I no longer cycle on but used to at one time I noticed this cyclist did exactly what I used to do.So I had a little bet with myself.I bet myself that same cyclist would jump the lights at the bottom of the bridge.I won my bet.

You get allsorts though - Some people with all the gear, Helmet, Lights, Dayglo clothing etc pootling on pavements on a £50 MTB and then others with no gear just tootling on the road.
Worrying that people spend more on gear than the bike though !

My most memorable one was a 50ish chap on a rather nice black roadster style bike.

I remember him because if I'd not been watching what he was doing, he'd have jumped his light straight into me. (I know this because he didn't look before jumping the red on his side of the junction).

There's some I see every day who always ignore the signals, and some I don't see so often. One guy today hopped onto the pavement opposite the Parrs Wood pub in order to avoid the lights at the junction. I hope he has good reactions, because the local schoolkids often walk that way. That particular fellow was a roadie in full fig, although most of the ones I see are hybrids or MTBs with students on them.

it is very tiresome seeing so many RLJ's.
I know see more RLJ's then non RLJ's on my commute.
And a mix of all sorts of riders.

What we need is some kind of exceedingly loud horn, which has a recorded voice yelling "BEWARE - RED LIGHT JUMPER BREAKING THE LAW !!" that could be set off as they sail by you sitting at the lights.

Kind of a Dom Joly-ish prank, but I'd love to see the reactions of the rider and the folks around who'd stop and stare at the RLJ'er xx(:biggrin:

You may feel strongly about the fact that he shouldn't do it, but it isn't really your job to appoint yourself judge, jury and executioner, and go around policing other cyclists and telling them what they've done wrong.
You'll be wagging a finger at people without pedal reflectors and having a go at anyone who takes a corner a bit wide next if we let that continue!
And you of all people shouldn't be telling others off for riding on the pavement seeing as you've openly admitted in the past that you brazenly defy the law and ride on the pavement yourself when it suits you, i.e. when you feel it isn't safe to ride on the road, despite it being against the law and you could have terrified a little old lady hobbling along to the corner shop as you steam past, you hypocrite!

I disagree bonj! If the public didn't try to enforce the law we'd only be left with the Police.......and that's clearly not going to work.

You can't go round making citizens arrests left right and centre, like Mr P wants to do.

Always wondered how you would actually make a citizens arrest:eek:

Just found this

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4159/is_20041024/ai_n12762773

Important part

'But before you start thinking about these points, it's important to remember that a citizen's arrest can only be carried out if you've seen the crime yourself: you can't do it on someone else's behalf. Also, you can only do it if an infraction or criminal activity is taking place which, upon first conviction, would carry a sentence of five years incarceration. You can't make a citizen's arrest for littering - nuisance as that may be'
