The cost of cycling

I just didn't realise how much it was going to cost when I got back on the bike (after far too long an absence) early last year.

Changed the bike from a large toy store chain full susser to something I enjoy riding and treated myself to some cycling apparel.

Cycling is now costing me more money again. Do I mind?
No - as I am now having to buy smaller clothes
And I can also get in trousers from 'the back of the wardrobe' that I thought deep down would never touch me again, but kept anyway as 'I can try to slim into them'. I can't be the only one that's ever thought that.

So, in the best Oscar tradition, thank you Giant. Thank you Cyclecraft. Thank you all here for having me realise that cycling in traffic isn't so bad and dangerous, for any advice over the past year.
And lastly, thank you Visa

I found that I had to spend a considerable amount of money to get myself into all year round commuting but after doing it for more than three years non stop I am well into the black.

Well done
I reckon with the price of fuel now, i save between £80 & £100 a month on fuel by commuting, all the more to buy bike stuff with

Yes it cost me more than I thought it would. But as well as saving the cost of the commute (i.e. season ticket or petrol depending on where you live), I count gym membership, and the quality of life etc. is unquantifiable

It only cost as much as you want to spend... just don't tell my wife that, I have a hard enough time convincing her that all these cycle accessories are essential...

Inner tubes, tyres, brake blocks, groupset upgrades, clothing for every possible weather scenario, backup of all of the above.....

Not to mention the increase in food bills!!!

Don't forget the n+1 formula for number of bikes needed will obviously come into play and boost your expenditure

It still has to be cheaper than other methods of commuting in most places. You spend more time doing it, but feel so much better for it.

I don't actually commute, it would be a bit tricky as I work in the North sea - more of a utility cyclist (plus leisure riding). Respect for those that do it every day though. Still, I've been home from work a week and only used the car once for a charity shop donation, though I found a clothing bank reasonably close since so could have done it with the camcart in 2-3 runs.

Very classy looking. But £ Prefer something with sails really though.

This is my day job.

Cool!

Now, there's a website, I don't have a link bookmarked on the laptop yet, but it shows you all the vessels around the coast, what their names are, what sort they are, in almost real time... So we could see where you've got to!?!
