I just swear under my breath and forget about it 5 minutes down the road.... I did experiment with a helmet cam but the odd thing that happened didn't make it worthwhile and it made me dwell on it by watching it again......

But yes sometimes 2 or 3 things happen within days that make me whince

Good point re: cam...why relive the anxiety. Like markharry66 says...nothing can happen for weeks then a gaggle of incidents in two days. I do feel like there's an inherent hatred of cyclist with a minority of motorists.

Van drivers I find are usually the worst.

Last weekend when I did London 2 Brighton with a few friends, one of them almost got flattened up Ditchling Hill, he almost had to dive into the hedge to avoid being run over as they swerved past him exchanging words.

Then there's talk of cyclist's needing a license to cycling now. Ridiculous. What I love most is when people have GoPro / helmet cams that catch these people getting road rage. No arguement...

Chorlton, then across the Parkway at the Brewery to University. Not many variations that way and I do like the routine. I know the trouble hotspots and know each and every pothole in the road like the back of my hand.
Which way do you go?

Sandbach, Middlewich, Byley, Toft, Knutsford, Ashley, Hale, Timperley, Sale, Stretford (Bridgewater Canal), and Salford Quays.

Given that you have a relatively short commute, I'd go out of my way by a few miles to avoid trouble spots. Better to try and avoid a problem by re-routing than tackle a known problem. It's surprising that some roads even in residential areas are more benign from a traffic/driving perspective than others.

Take it easy...

Jeez, that's one hell of a commute. How long does that take you?

First time in ages got pushed into the Kerb and almost squeezed by local london bus. Cycled past muttered pratt and got on with life its to short.
Most drivers that drive like that couldnt give a toss about they drive.

North Manchester seems to have far less cyclists but I have barely any interaction or passes, pull outs, I consider dangerous or worth giving a second thought to, dunno if I'm too zen about it, I give off a don't f**k with me vibe or ride in a manner that informs and compels drivers around me to treat me with respect. When I drive down A62 Oldham Road I invariably get wound up more, perceive more bad driving & have a worse experience than when I cycle it.

Maybe it's an attitude thing & you expect the bad so you get it.... Your angry LOOKING Audi driver with whom you tried to start the conversation??

Maybe he's got raging piles and they were giving him gyp or One Direction had come up on his radio???

On my daily commute I do notice that if there are road works going on somewhere on my route I get more close shaves and those wanting to beat me to pinch points than just the usual commute to and from. I generally let any drivers I perceive as dangerous to me, pass me and rarely have incident although when I do it is usually very hairy.

On a plus side I often get positive responses from drivers , especially so when keeping with traffic.

One day on the way home I was taking a corner and there was a car parked on it so I looked over to see if it was safe to pull out with room to avoid the door and It happened to be a van man (which I usually perceive as hazardous drivers) and a couple of cars behind him. So I slowed down and was willing to hold till him and the cars behind passed. He however made eye contact waved and flashed me on and held up the few cars . Then he went on to have a little chat out of the window how he is a cyclist and the car was awfully parked. I thanked him gave a thumbs up and toot toot and off he went. I now do not perceive all vans as bad

Thanks for all your replies. Yes of course this doesn't happen on a daily basis...just been 'one of those weeks'. I never retaliate usually...as someone said here ...just smile and cycle on. On my route in South Manchester, the buses are probably the most considerate, although I don't cycle down Wilmslow Rd often (Curry Mile)...now that is horrendous for a number of reasons.

Strange, exactly what I am going through at the moment. Is it something to do with the weather? Perhaps they are annoyed (can't think of the better word) about all the new cycle lanes being built in London.

I used to get lots of incidents when i first started , now i getr hardly any .
I put it down to a combination of better road positioning and better anticipation of what someone might do given half a chance .

Been commuting by bike every day for 10 years now and it never changes. You're right though, you can limit the damage with fore-sight.
