According to the doom sayers on the 24 hr news channels we are long overdue a super volcano e.g. Yellowstone national park or the area near Naples going up and the other thing is the statistical inevitability of another seriously big meteorite strike. I should imagine that the latter is something to devote a lot of technical energy to with a view to coming up with counter measures.

An Italian friend of mine once said that no one who studies Vesuvius lives in Naples...

We (as a species) will be long gone anyway by the time the Sun goes pop - we'll either have evolved into something different, or been wiped out by some natural catatrophe, or wiped ourselves out.

I think the effects will be:

Sun gets bigger and hotter, Earth loses whatever surface water still exists.

Sun gets bigger and hotter, any remaining atmosphere is blasted away by the increasing solar wind.

Sun gets bigger and hotter, Mercury and Venus have been consumed and Earth becomes a very hot little rock.

Sun gets bigger and hotter, Earth is a little rocky crispy thing.

Sun shrinks back, Earth cools down.

Sun reduces to a white dwarf, Earth becomes very cold.

Sun becomes very dim and cool, my numbers finally come up on the lottery.

I generally agree with that although you're number, for the lottery, should have come up around 37000 times

There has been a book written about this as well.

I'd be surprised by that. As a group, vulcanologists have the highest premature death rate (work related) of any sort of scientists. Although the stats are probably skewed by one event (or should that be 'accident') that wiped out several in one go  But the point is still good - vulcanologists are nutters, even the sane ones, or they wouldn't be vulcanologists.

I see at least 1 problem with the theroy is if the sun explodes and the Earth survives the blast. You say it will get hotter and hotter but with the sun gone what is going to heat the Earth?

Nothing. You should buy thermals before they are all snapped up.

OP is reasonable, except that a star the size of the sun will not explode. It will expand into a red giant (as someone above has mentioned, I think?), which will actually be a cooler star than at present, but much, much bigger so the radiation arriving at the Earth will be extreme. I think (without bothering to look it up!) that Mercury and Venus, and possibly also Earth, may actually end up within the star (although they will no longer be recognisable as planets when that happens, I should think.

(So the "1. Bang, 2. That's it" scenario is not what is going to happen.)
