I think I'll regret it too Bridgy. I've at least got to set out to do the 120 I think. Like you say if the weathers crap or my body fails me then I'll have to re evaluate. No doubt the lads doing the shorter distances will feel obliged to do big efforts at the front with this in mind :okay:

Tommy wearing the maglia rosa whilst cyclechat members lead him to epic result :okay:

If and it's a big IF. The weather must be ideal and feel good at 90mile distance I might consider 121. I have never done that much riding before.

Me either. I set out to do 100 miles a couple of weeks ago in a sportive but my back started aching so I bailed... there was a point where the road forked. One sign said 65 mile route, the other said 100, the rest as they say is history!

I've done a century before but not with this much climbing. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. Whichever distance we all choose to do it's another benchmark we've completed

Sorry guys, I just haven't been able to reorganise everything to get to the DD. I knew it was going to be hard as May is always a very busy month for me. I'm gutted not to be going as it would be a real challenge and I love a challenge.

Tommy, you'll be able to waltz around your family room in your Lycra with freedom ;) as I've left it late I'm more than happy to contribute to the room as you might find it hard to find a roomy now, unless you can persuade one of the campers?

I'm sure those rolling up to the start line will have an amazing ride, whichever distance you end up doing, it might be tough but it'll be great. Do take some snaps and post them here so I can be persuaded to book the time off at work and with the family well in advance for next year.

Real shame you can't be there Kip, I'll make sure I take a few pictures along the way. Don't worry at all about the room but thanks very much for offering mate. I'm still hopeful Bob's signing up, I feel it only fair at least one person should have to endure my snoring!

I've spoken to the Metrople, and we have a table of 6 booked for the Saturday night, pretty much whatever time we want, not too late I suggest, and the chef is going to do us something nice and pasta/ chicken orientated.
I only have my iPhone, but happy to take a heap of pictures to fully document your decline from excited, puppy like anticipation, to bedraggled, miserable exhaustion. Might even throw my bike on the car and don my Lycra so I can get some photos to make it look like I'm doing it too.

Tommy the 121 route splits quite early from the 95miler so the decision has to be taken in the first 20 miles. We'll discuss Saturday over a pint.
That's different from last year then, last year the split was about 50-60 miles in. Still a hard decision to make, as how you feel at 50 miles has little to no bearing on just how cream crackered you will feel at 100. It's an exponential curve in my experience.

So true Adam, I'm going to assess the routes now.

Correction, I was looking at route backwards, so 121 decision is much later

Looks like you have to make your mind up at around 71 miles, as the routes split just before the feed station at Trecastle.

If your doing the 121 miles you go a few yards to the feed station, then back on yourself east on the A40, rather than west for the 95 mile.

So the decision is 24 more miles or 50!

Speaking as a rider who's never done more than 70 miles, best of luck guys, I hope the weather is kind, this far out it looks like it could be.

Is anyone else still considering the 120 miles? I've probably not trained as much as I could have, I've spent the last 2 weeks eating and drinking way too much. And Im pretty sure Adam, Paul and Bill were in better shape than me and they suffered badly by all accounts. But I'm still tempted...
95 only for me. I say 'only'!!!!

Are we gonna get manly and macho at the 71 mile feed and convince each other to do the longer ride?!?!?:surrender:
