I have taken a days leave today as the teachers are on strike and I am doing child care, so no commute

I had intentions to get up and ride anyway before the wife went to work. However, it was dark, wet and extremely windy so went back to bed.

Very lazy and now feeling guilty. I doubt I can persuade the two boys ( aged 7) to go out for a quick 10 miler later!!!!!!

The traffic into London this morning was fantastic, much better than school holidays. Seemed to be more cyclists too.

Lets have a strike every week!!!

Very little traffic this am - it was great, and the picket line was crap at work so sailed passed the strikers. I wasn't going to stop anyway as I'd have got cold.

Very few staff in here today - all 'working from home' I guess.

There was less traffic but unfortunately more knobbers in metal cages than usual.

Nothing wrong with taking a lazy day, especially if the weather is not the best:thumbsup: .

Of course they will. I am considering a similar 10-15 miles with a pub lunch thrown in for my 5yr and 8yr olds but there won't be anything quick about it.

Pub lunch, now that's a great idea.

Cycling may still be tricky as the sleet is horizontal at times and I'm currently looking over at Ben Wyvis which is covered in snow from 250m ( we're at 155m here) and above. May well try a cycle down to the village (downhill) post office to start with and if complaints minimal then on to pub for some grub.

Yes certainly enjoyed the lazy decadent coffee in bed when I would normally have just been getting to work. Boys building Lego and I'm reading CC with 2nd coffee. If you can't cycle, why not read about it instead.

I got quite annoyed at the trying to get through the picket line at my workplace. One guy stepped in front of the card-swipe door-entry system and shoved a leaflet in my face. I asked him to move because he's not allowed to hamper my entry into the building. He did step aside but he kept talking to me and asking me to stand with them and not cross the picket line. Being slightly annoyed I informed him, tersely, that I had important work to be getting on with and thanks to people striking I had to man a 3-person helpdesk by myself today.

Give him his dues though, he didnt back down and carried on prattling about whether I was a union member and that if I'm not I should join. So I spun on him and said that I dont want to commute in for 2 hours, just to stand about in the cold for a few hours to then commute for 2 hours back again? AND loose a days pay for the priviledge?

Then just walked thorugh the door before I could be replied to...

Well, there is bugger all staff in here today. Me, department heads, some admin staff, buildings staff and one lecturer - the rest are nowhere to be seen - working at home my ar$e.

I got stopped at the last strike and had a chat at the picket line but it was warm, not today.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Gone in today (I'm not a union member) and there were picket lines at both entrances. But ... 3rd entrance no-one so went through that. I've got child no. 2 with me - and there's about 3 other lecturers in.

The sports scientists have established that fitness develops on the days you are resting :cuppa: , between exercising. :training:

Consider this a day when you are building muscle, not using it which would be preventing muscle growth !

Enjoy the day with your boys !:o)

I went down to Chingford and High Beech for a ride this sunny morning expecting the roads to be a bit quieter. I left Harlow at 9.00 am and unlike others on here found the roads crazy. I seems a little bit of sun and all the looneys get let out of the asylum for the day. It has been my worst ride for bad overtakes for a very long time. Scarey! If people must go on strike they should join their comrades on the picket lines not go galivanting around the country.
