I was in hospital having my appendix out when I was 18 and my girlfriend of the time bought me the book 'Straight Time'. This was turned into a movie and released about the same time..but not in the UK. If it did score a release in British cinemas, it was a very short one and then it disappeared and as far as I know, it hasn't been shown on British TV (although I stand to be corrected on that one) since. If it had, I'm certain I'd have known as I loved to story so much and wanted to see it and have always liked Dustin Hoffman.

Anyway, last week I bought in off Amazon and settled down to watch it. It is a very good film and brought back memories of the story from all those years ago. Kathy Bates is in it and looks incredibly young and, for her, extremely thin. Gary Busey plays Kathy Bates' husband and he also looks very young as does Harry Dean Stanton (of Debbie Harry's passion) who becomes Hoffman's character's partner-in-crime.

So there we are; did anyone see it at the time and can remember it? Was it ever shown on British TV? Does anyone know anything about it?
