Anyone seen this proposal to go +1 on GMT then still put them forward in the spring? 3 year trial.
Mad idea! Trouble is it means in north scotland it wouldn't get light until 10am.

Why can't the Scots keep their beloved GMT and us Southerners keep BST. Such a pointless existence getting dark at 5PM. Give me dark mornings anyday.

You would like it in Reykjavik, the sun rises after 11am and sets at about 3:30pm in December. Looks like they are on the equivalent of BST all year round.

A spokesman for the Scottish government welcomed the commitment to consult the devolved administrations formally but added: "The Scottish government's established position is that there is no case for a change to existing arrangements."

And SNP MP Angus MacNeil said any change would have "massive implications for the safety and wellbeing of everyone living north of Manchester".

Oh, I see. Your line of thinking being that the views or the SNP equate to the opinions of the entire population of Scotland. How interesting. Thus the views of David Cameron equate to the opinions of the entire population of England. Using your line of thinking.

I'd love us to be on Central European Time. Seems crazy for it to be dark at 4pm in December. An extra hour of daylight in the afternoon would make an enormous difference for me. The most sensible option would put England and Wales on CET and leave Ireland and Scotland as things are. There - sorted.

That makes no sense at all. Businesses wouldn't be able to operate with offset times.

Well then 'business' must be even more dumb than I gave them credit for. Take a look at this link Time zones US flavour If places like the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas and parts of Idaho can manage on two time zones within their own states, then surely we're bright enough to cope with adjusting our watches at Gretna or Berwick- I just can't see the problem. Lets stop pissing about and just adopt CET and be done with it.

Of course we could do it - but this is not a vast continent. It's frankly impractical on a tiny island. Which is why we should just adopt CET and be done with it. IMHO.
