What's good is knowing where it's going is to some brain-achingly imaginative sci-fi.

Regarding proxies.

A lot of time and effort goes into making sure you don't succumb to phishing emails, phone scams, download malware and otherwise compromise of your whole existence.

And yet, voluntarily setting up to run all your internet traffic through a limited set of servers beyond the reach of regulation or law...what could possibly go wrong there?

I've forgotten all about this. I found a way of watching it a month or so back. I can't remember how.

I saw the first episode and I thought it was very good.

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
I didnt realise this was on netflix now, I really enjoyed it, it varies a little from the books in some of the relationships and it adds a couple of new storylines but apart from that it was pretty faithful. The new series is due out in January I think.

Yep the series is on Netflix.
Loved the book, struggled to get into the series, not sure why, I think I'd built too stronger picture in my mind and the characters didn't match my preconceived picture of them. My fault I suspect, the series is obviously well regarded.

Read the first book, thought it was pretty generic and uninteresting, haven't bothered with the rest. It seemed like it was 'made for TV' even in written form, so it'll probably be better on the small screen.

The second has been my favourite, it had more politics and strategy than the first. I really like the new characters, a Martian soldier and an earth politician and how they worked together to achieve their joint aims.

I thought the first was ok but I thought the series improved from there. The second flew by for me, it was a book I couldn't put down, You may not like the rest but if you don't like the second then you are probably right it isn't for you.

I should add I dont think Im recommending it for you, you found the first generic and uninteresting, I didnt so probably our tastes differ. Its no Dune but I thought its a good story and a good gateway to serious sci fi.

I've read so much SF that gateway drugs just don't work these days!
