There were over 20 bikes waiting at the lights before Tower Bridge this morning. (When I say waiting I actually mean pushing in front of each other trying to jump the lights first.)

Back in early January I was often the only one.

Anyone else noted the return of the fair weather commuter?

Yeah the nutters seemed to be out on the Old Kent Road this morning. All with nice shiny Treks from what I could see, has Boris signed some kind of deal for Trek to sponsor commuting? Next one that jumps a red light by pushing past me with get pushed over.

I'm not a fair weather commuter, I have just started cycling. I am lucky if I see 3 cyclists on the roads in the morning, though that bloody lyrca clad roadie who zoomed past me on Tuesday is counted in that... Should.of.bought.a.road.bike.

Friday seems to be a favourite day for the occasional commuters in Edinburgh. Most days I am on my own as I normally get into work at around 6:35AM to shower and start at 7:00AM but on Fridays I could form a peloton^_^

There are a few extras appearing on the route & someone at work asked me the best route in for them on Monday. Most are on MTB's and fairly rotund/red faced.

They get the same 'hello' as everyone else as I pass them, particularly since I was in their position last year.

Started in September so got my fitness together for Xmas, kept going throughout only missed a few days literally 4/5 found the extreme cold wasnt too bad as I thought, was dreading it, but found end of November worst pitch black at 4 40pm blooming orrible.

In my building the highly paid consultants stopped biking in but I perservered.....it got down to 2 or 3 bikes at most up to 7 or 8 now so my guess is almost 100% increase in traffic. My guess is no where near very scentific , in fact its complete bollox really, maybe they arent fair weather cyclists after all? I think they're the " Not commuting in sub zero temps cyclists " I think the real FWC ( fair weather commuters ) will start form up in the Spring like migrating great Muddy Fox geese heading off for sunny coves and sun dried tomatoes in ciabbatas. They will plunder Halfords for latest gear ready for the Spring migration before hibernating early around October....

Has been raining here in Southampton since 2pm.

I was out on foot doing some shopping in the morning. Saw three riders, but the cycle-stands in Bitterne were pretty full. This was outside the normal commuting times...

I'd imagine it's more a case of some people not being able to afford any other way to travel and so cycle in all conditions.

25 mph driving rain today. But I am on leave. So I did 35 miles training ride . Slowest mile was 7.5 mph, fastest was 29, guess which was up hill and up wind?

Soon that WILL be you....

I know just how you feel and invested in a roadie late last year after a few years or riding in on an old (and well loved) MTB. You may even find me sporting a bit of lycra these days.
