I do genuinely feel this WC has created a problem through its sheer size. I have a passing interest in international football. I'll watch if an England or Scotland game is on at a semi-reasonable time. I appreciate time zones mean we cannot expect KOs to be convenient to Europeans, we shouldn't feel so entitled. Where I see the difficulty, it is for me, is the matches are so widely spaced there's no momentum or excitment building, no anticipation. This just drags on and on and with still more than two weeks to go, by which time I will have completely lost interest.....................unless Kane has managed to pull England through to the final

If you're only watching your team then yes, it feels widely spaced.

If, however, you're watching Cabo Verde take Argentina into an incredible extra time, or the French forwards taking apart everyone they meet, or Norwegians rowing their massive invisible boat, then time flies

For me World Cups have always been about seeing loads of different teams create their own stories - like one of my favourite memories is of Roger Milla dancing at the corner flag in Italia '90, Valderamas amazing afro and even more amazing velcro-boots etc etc etc

I’m a bit concerned for the safety of our players and fans. The team hotel location has been leaked and the Mexican fans are giving our team a noisy time and loads of abuse too, even inside the hotel reports say. This shouldn’t be happening as the same treatment was handed out to their last opponents.

Doubt there's any actual safety problem for fans or team, probably safer than playing Lazio in Rome for e.g.
The team will have know exactly what to expect and prepared accordingly, if they're not complete amateurs. If they didn't want people to know where they were staying they should probably have avoided driving a giant team bus with a cross of St George and ENGLAND on it to the hotel

Yes, you're very right. I've only a passing interest, league football is my thing, and it matters little to me how England do. A bit parochial on my part I suppose. I'm not sufficiently motivated to watch Argentina and Cape Verde on the off-chance it's a great game.

The same thing happened in 1970 when England players were noisily disturbed overnight before our games against Brazil, then West Germany. Not only the noise, but Bobby Moore being held in police cells overnight after being accused of nicking a gold bracelet and Gordon Banks now it seems possibly CIA poisoned, when he missed the West Germany quarter-final due to food poisoning.🧐

If you mean in 1970, Mexico were out of the competition by then, so they'd 'gone home'. If you mean now, I have no idea.🤷 I don't see noise from annoying, noisey Mexicans as much of a problem as ear plugs and a carafe of fine cognac each should block the noise out.🧐
