Falkirk held the transfer fee World Record at one point

https://www.nutmegmagazine.co.uk/is...nd-the-folly-of-falkirks-world-record-gamble/

British transfer fees officially lost touch with reality on Tuesday 7th February 1922. “When will this folly on the part of football clubs come to an end?” demanded the Football Post. It wasn’t talking about a swap by the big boys of the game – the Sheffield Uniteds or Preston North Ends. This was Falkirk FC, a team from a small town in central Scotland, who had just paid West Ham United a world record £5,000 for an England international called Sydney Puddefoot. “What is to be the limit?” continued the Post’s indignant editorial. “Is there to be a limit?”

Come on Crystal Palace.
They have their best chance yet to life a major trophy. And almost every neutral will be on their side
Should be a cracking game.

My brother could only get one ticket, but wanted to take his son too, so let another lad go in his place.
I think he’s regretting it!

That was a roller coaster.
Probably a bit lucky, but they want it more than City.
I so pleased for my 78 year old godfather who has had a season ticket for over 50 years and never seen them lift a trophy.

I've always had a soft spot for Palace, one of my all time favourite players, Johnny Byrne came to us from Palace while they were still a third division outfit. And remarkably, Byrne started playing for England while he was at Palace.
