This was Falkirk FC, a team from a small town in central Scotland, who had just paid West Ham United a world record £5,000 for an England international called Sydney Puddefoot. “What is to be the limit?” continued the Post’s indignant editorial. “Is there to be a limit?”

My dear departed mum was a Palace supporter and I was born a couple of miles from the ground. She would have been chuffed bless her. I'm chuffed and being a lifelong Chelsea fan, I know exactly how the Palace fans are feeling having not won anything for years. So happy for the club.

Thought the same myself, every time I've seen Palace they've been very entertaining and that's bound to have attracted attention, hopefully the squad won't get ripped apart by the "big" boys.

I've always had a soft spot for Palace, one of my all time favourite players, Johnny Byrne came to us from Palace while they were still a third division outfit. And remarkably, Byrne started playing for England while he was at Palace.
