Apart from the team, manager and fans.

Couldn't sleep for the fireworks, car horns etc last night. In the end I went out and joined them celebrating this massive achievement of winning the third place medal

Well the third place match comes after you've already played 7 competitive games, travelling the whole time, away from family. Then there's the psychological impact of losing a semi-final and having to go and play a match for something nobody really cares about

My heart bleeds for them, these very young, very fit players.

They are very, very highly paid, pampered pros who will soon be lying on expensive sun loungers in exotic resorts, and then start earning more millions from their clubs. If a pro can’t take the psychological stress of losing a match they should get a job like the fans who pay good money to watch them, or take up knitting. Most of the other countries would love to be playing for third place if they were offered that at the start. They know the rules when they enter the tournament and the time for changing them Is before the tournament not because they’re a bit upset.

That is not to say the WC finals do not have too many teams entering so more matches, but that is a different argument and one which should also apply to their clubs when arranging out of season tours to avoid too much strain on them.

Compare them to the poor domestiques at the Grand Tours who have to struggle on for weeks when they know they and their leaders are not going to win anything. They are pro sportsmen.

All I got out of that was an image of Homer Simpson shouting "MAKE THE MONKEY DANCE!" at an organ grinder, and I don't even think that was an actual episode.
