We were in the market for a new BMW, Mercedes or Audi about 3 years ago, booked a test drive of a Bimmer and Merc. Next day me and the wife walked into an Audi dealership for a browse at the A5s. Had hardly crossed the threshold when a salesman hurried towards is and before we even spoke said " The second hand cars are out the back on the forecourt' ^_^ What a nobber.
Bought a Volkswagen in the end.

Same happened to a mate of mine. He and his wife sold their business for £6m + (after years of growing it and hard work). He wanted to buy a brand new Aston and the staff in his nearest dealer refused to let him have a test drive as they thought he didn't look rich enough (not sure how they decided that). He went to the head office, explained he was prepared to pay in full immediately and told them about the dealership problems. Not only did he get a test drive but the manager and salesman at the local dealer got the boot.

Its hard work making money, if you are fortunate to make it in life, then maybe it is easy to spend it, the guys selling are a problem..?

I spent 3 hours of my time this week demonstrating tools and talking business with a chap, in the end he had no money, well none that his wife would let him spend.

£4,000 to some people is easier to get than a £100 for somebody else.

It is not always about how much you earn and more about how much disposable you have.

I swapped push bikes for motorbikes, I soon swapped back. I did have both for a few years but the powered one just did not give me the health benefits.

I am not in sales, but I would guess from the salesman's point of view, there is potentially a balance to be drawn, which might come from experience, or be intuitive.
I hate being jumped on as soon as I walk in anywhere; and have said to sales people leave me alone if you wish me to buy,.. - To my wife's embarassment. Or I will simply walk out if they don't get my body language.
On the other hand, if having determined I will make a purchase, whilst I will tolerate sales staff being positively engaged, being left alone while they seemingly have more preoccupation with brews, chat, or the contents of their nasal cavity, will equally cause me me to go elsewhere.
