It is a matter of perception I guess.. Christmas is what you make of it. For me Christmas is time off, good food, loads of baking, quality time with my dogs, family and the people I love, board games, the beginning of skiing season and winter holidays planning. Nothing to do with religion (far from it) and not really involved with the "commercial" part of it.
The snow on the other hand, it's a matter of taste! Some like it, some don't. I love everything about it (yes, even the muddy slush afterwards). Plenty of snow-specific gear out there to handle the cold as well.
There's always a reason to winge, critisize and reject, but if you slightly change your point of view things might look a tad bit better! The up-bringing in Cyprus doesn't help I guess..
Not much you can do about your family though I'm afraid..
