Been to my GP today (first time this millennium), to be told I have Shingles. Advice is to get plenty of rest.

So we negotiated, and she agreed that it is OK for me to commute to work on my bike, as long as I do it gently. But how do I do this, just as the warm weather has arrived? How do I stop seeing anything ahead of me as a target, and every commute as a training ride?

Maybe turn it into a game, I was speaking to a lady the other day and her daughter ( 6 yrs old) goes to a cycling club and they have a slow race
seriously HRM with a alarm on it that goes off when your heart rate goes too high.

The problem with shingles is that it's an odd disease. It might go away and never bother you again, or it may recur at odd intervals. Probably best to play safe and rest up as much as possible. The weather isn't going to be that good anyway.

That was easier than I thought. Met up with a couple of friends on the way in, and chatted most of the way. Only problem was the temperature - fine in shorts if you are going full gas, but a bit chilly if you are just chilling.

Has she prescribed you an anti-viral? Important to take early to reduce duration and avoid ongoing issues with post hermetic neuralgia (nerve pain)

You should also take some time off work

There's a recent thread on shingles in the health section

Thanks!

Anti-viral being taken, as of last night. Don't know anything about shingles, at the moment. Although I trust the diagnosis, I don't seem to have the typical pain, extended rash or feeling unwellness that is typical. GWS seems like a strange sentiment when I don't feel the slightest bit ill.

I find that leaving the house at 0500hrs in the pitch black takes all of the steam out of me, give it a go!

In between here and there
I went for a 15 mile ride with my youngest daughter and found 12-13mph without trying to push it all the time surprisingly therapeutic.. !

Although I a not sure she did!
