I was only trying to prove a point.

I still point to what happened to me in Gran Canaria.....The circumstances were right and I got away with it because I became aware of the danger.(I also became of a car accelerating towards my in dusky lighting conditions)

I can understand why motorists do a SMIDSY.

I can also understand the difference in a SMIDSY and whether they are in too much damn of a hurry.

This business of size "hunkered down" and Hi Viz is a total red herring. Pure conjecture I know but I reckon the driver saw him and just misjudged his speed, happens all the time with left hooks, peds crossing etc and it is no excuse. It just demonstrates a typical lack of knowledge about cycling, perhaps we should force all our Olympic hopefuls to train on sit up and begs clad head to foot in fluro. Bottom line either he looked and misjudged speed or he just didn't look hard enough. I cannot believe how pathetic his punishment is.
