The Honeymoon is over after four years of retirement i am having to find a part time job .I am just over 60 .I was asked for a CV this morning at the Agency someone told me about .Hell it was never this hard in the 60's.

Could have five manual jobs in the same week .

Can anyone give me tips on how to lay out a CV .I have done a rough draft on my computer .But i am not sure how to present it on paper .I have done different headings and broken it down into sections

Age D.o.b,address,Status (retired ),Employment history and work details ,work since retiring ,Qualifications ,mentioned CRB checked and a health and food safety certificate i had to study for .Info about me and my hobbies .

My volunteering work and finally mentioned my hearing problems .

But it's how to put it down so it looks inviting to read .

Any ideas out there .Much appreciated .

There is absolutely stacks of stuff about this on T'interweb, Postman.

Just picking one of the first pages at random http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/cv.htm
I see that they recommend the Learning Skills Council site for some practical tools, where you can play around securely https://www.cvbuilde...resources.co.uk

I've just retired, so I'm still in the honeymoon stage. Before that I was Staff Head Honcho and used to receive two or three spec CVs a week; if you want to PM me your draft I'll gladly give you my 10p on it. Lots of people on here have current, hands on, experience of all things HR so I'm sure you'll get plenty of sensible suggestions over the next couple of days.

No need to state age or d.o.b. on C.V. / application under the law, I believe. Nor status.

In the dateline information, for the last four years you can put retired, but as you are now looking for a position I would want to put a description that's a little less 'permanent' there. I just can't think what.

CRB checks are specific to organisations and are valid for a limited period I think, so I would be specific about this if the CRB check is current, e.g. CRB checked - The Scout Association, July 2009.

No need to put disabilities on your CV; this can be covered off once your foot is in the door. Even though companies cannot discriminate, I wouldn't want to give them reason to do so just by reading my CV.

Keep it short and to the point. At the initial sorting stage your CV will only get about 10-15 seconds attention before the "bin it" or "keep it" decision is made. So. tailor it to each application and ensure your skills/exprerience that are relevant to the post leap off the page. 2 pages absolute max.

Thank you all .I am just waiting to go into Leeds this morning (on the bus pass ).Meeting up with a leadership team member from Church, Statrbucks and Chocolate cake .To sort out my CV .Which i put together yesterday .

Thank you all .I had a great response from Church members who emailed me their actual CV's.

A couple of Doctors ,what a read theirs was .

Got to say mine was laid out sort of in the right order .But with a lot less Qualifications .

But i am not looking for anything in the management power line of course .

Something nice and simple ,with helping people in mind .

Once again thanks for taking the time out to help .
