In follow up to the aviation thread, I found this interesting little film, complete with cheesy '70s music!

Watch as 'The Human Fly' rides on top of a DC-8 at 300mph, and learn all about it!

Ok, so it is 23 mins long, but it is interesting, particularly from 3.20, 4.12, 5.50 and 7.30 onwards. Take off is at 10.00.
Other points of note are 13.39, 16.10, 17.20 and... I can't remember now... Just watch it!:

Incidentally, if you think you have it hard cycling through the rain, skip to 3.20 :giggle:

Its is very cheesy, but hey, what an achievement, and there are great shots of the DC-8 too!

I wonder what happened to him.
Well when you've done it, stick it on Youtube and send us the link, and we'll do a comparison.
I'm afraid I don't have a DC-8; and anyway my tummy would stick out.
All I meant was, he doesn't actually have to do anything - just stand there against a frame. OK, if it snaps off, his bottom will go half-a-crown-threepenny-bit, but it's not as if he has to steer, or move, or make any decision.

Awesome, truly awesome.

The guy's a legend, you wouldn't have got me on and off that aircraft using that hydraulic hoist thing for all the tea in China.

Really? Really?
No no, only put up with being blasted by a 250 - 300mph wind for about 20 mins. Tons of air pressing down on his body complete with the friction burning him and at a windchill to match! Even without rain, that's gonna hurt! And then there's breathing. Its about endurance.

Sticking your head out of the window of a train going at 125 is bad enough as it is thanks!

Besides, how could he do it without a frame? He'd be off the back of the plane and into the ground like a dart regardless of whether he first give himself the Banana Split wedgie from hell on the tail!

but it's not as if he has to steer, or move, or make any decision.

I doubt he could really move much at that speed anyway!

If you see the parts where they talk about him and his accident, maybe he still needed help getting up and down

if the rain toe his leather leather outfit to shreds, surely it would have had his eyes out - didn;t see him wearing goggles and not sure if he could move his arms to protect his eye with his hands.

anyone remember the polycell wallpaper paste advert where they used the paste to glue to a board a pair of overalls, got some bloke to climb into them and flew the board under a helicopter (or was it a plane)?

I'm sure he would have had some sort of eye protection, it might just not have been obvious, I'll need to watch again.

I mean, a cyclist hitting the eye of an insect is bad enough, so unless he was some sort of massochist, I imagine he had something.

EDIT: I've just watched it again, yep, what a massochist!!
