But he's still out there, ambling along, terrorising cyclists, being self-righteous. Next time, I will aim toward his dog rather than the kerb. There is nice soft grass on the right if running over Rover throws me off.

Until pedestrians are navigating roundabouts at 40mph whilst chatting away on their mobile phones, or swerving busses at you because they couldn't get past you at a traffic island, I think "inconveniencing slightly" is a better description.

Just because a person is old does not give them carte blanche to be irritating gits, The Magicshine is an efficient way to convince them to move without running into them or saying something rude. And yes it is rude to shine a light at someone, but it is down right dangerous to purposefully step in front of a cyclist.

Here if you are outside city limits and not shooting across a road, you are free to shoot.
In some states you have the right to protect yourself, no need to shout anything, shoot to kill.

Such situations are a splendid opportunity to display your ability to track stand and make him walk past you. When he whispers in your ear, just whisper back "I know, but it's so much more fun on a bike"

I use alot of shared use paths and most peds and dog walkers are very nice, they rain their dogs in or get them to sit as I go passed, and I always make a point of thanking them, you do get the odd one that is either hard of hearing or locked in conversation with a friend that dont hear you calling or ringing the bell, but thats understandable.

The ones that bug me are when a group of youngsters deliberaty block the path. You see that they have seen you as they have either turned to look in your direction when you sound the bell or were already walking towards you, then they turn to their mates as if to say watch this, then either turn their back on you and walk in the middle of the path, or start to weave acorss the path. its almost as if they get a little power trip from making you slow or stop.

Proceed slowly and at about three feet sound the AirZound tat full blast.... Yoof loses all street cred as he dances the funky pedestrian, you nip through the gap and leave him being laughed at by his mates!

I was approaching a shared use path today on the prom. I was entering it from a dropped kerb in a car park. I noticed two dogs near the kerb (one sniffing some weeds and the other besides a parked car).
As I passed the dog on my left (sniffing weeds) the dog on my right started running at me, yapping away. Then the other dog joined it.

I cycled about 50 yards then stopped as the dogs ran away from me (didnt hear their owner call them). I turn around and look at the parked car which the dogs have run to. I stare at the driver for about 30 seconds and then continue on my way.

The reason I stopped was that I seriously thought that the dogs were going to bite my rear tire or ankles and I was preparing myself for unclipping and kicking them in the face.

The owner was just sat in the car allowing the dogs to run around causing havok. I was thinking of confronting the owner but thought better of it.

I have a dislike of owners that cant control dogs in the past I used to cycle to gravesend on a shared path where the path goes through to high banks, once I almost had my head taken off by dog owner with retractable lead letting it run across the path to the other bank. I also hate people who say its okay it wont hurt you my son is scared of dogs and get easily scared by dogs running up to him. I would shout at the owners but that would make me just as bad

I ride a lot of canal path miles which are quite often used by dog walkers.

Although it is not scientific I have noticed something : the walkers in the town part often have the least common sense letting the dog run its own route without a lead and not doing anything when they meet other traffic (pedestrian or bike). However as soon as you get out of town on the same path the walkers are all much more sensible making sure to control their pet and saying good morning as you meet.

Truely like chalk and cheese, strange world !

Anyway now the weathers started to change the 'fair weather' users have vacated the paths leaving only us dedicated nutcases

We should all be aware that many people in the community have some degree of mental illness. Undoubtedly more prevalent in the older population as dementia gets a hold. The OP's old git may just be a regular old git of course.

That's why I so enjoy life in Thailand,the people are so nice.People pulled out on me today(no problems and I didn't rant),I was worried by inexperienced moped riders,who looked very young,I was more worried about not crashing into them or anyone.I think I pulled out badly from the right and although I stopped as I met a blind spot nobody had a go at me.Dellzeqq has got a great attitude of unfortunately what is the problem in England.Everybody in such a f'kin hurry.

Take your time and mellow out.I know it's hard.Try to show some respect.x
