I'm not sure I'd realised he was still alive. His stuff is just the sort of thing that appeals to me, but I can just imagine what the professionally outraged would make of a song called Poisoning Pigeons in the Park these days.

Brilliant. We need more of this sort of thing these days.
There was a brilliant show called Tom Foolery starring Robin Ray back in the '80s which we saw back then. Robin did a great rendition of 'The Elements'.

Tom Lehrer was an "alternative" comedian before that title had even been invented. I thought his work was great and I must admit I presumed he was long dead.

yes (and thrice yes!)

He's also one of the few comedians that makes me (even as an adult) AND my dad howl with laughter.

This is a bit of a reach, but I reckon Lehrer fans might also like the writing of SJ Perelman; you read it and think:
"Ah, so the sarcasm in Blackadder was nothing new! I kinda like this ... "
The cultural references are (EDIT: many) decades out of date, but it's still funny.
