A generation that truley needs to be remembered for sacrificing what they did for us.

Not taking anything away from the heros of WWI but they do make 'em like that.
Our boys have been out in Afghanistan for eight years - twice the duration of WWI.
Although not on the same scale it is killing just the same and pointless just the same.

Please reconsider that. It's a view which is rarely shared by those who do the fighting (although I'm aware of the late Mr Patch's views on the subject) and is frankly a bit of a pointless cliche. There are a lot of arguments for making war as a last resort but that sort of view doesn't contribute much to the debate.

Harry Patch somehow made the war real to my children, and they always watched him each time he was on the local news. One of them came out to the garden to tell me the news yesterday. Then to bring it down to her level asked me "which death was sadder - Harry Patch or Michael Jackson?" - for me no competition Harry Patch every time.
