Today I ate..

Lunch: Pasta with chicken, BLT sandwich, packet of crisps, 3 mr Kipling angle slices and a kitkat chunky.

I will often get a pasta dish with a sandwich, or 2x sandwiches or a sandwich + a salad or a lasagne from this cafe around the corner.

I eat a lot

That's my kinda lunch. Unfortunately, I do nowhere near the miles you do!

For my packed lunch: 1 sandwich (choice of filling), 1 pkt of crisps, 1 chewiee bar, 1 full bottle of water.
I normally have dinner at college as well: Either sausage or beans with a plate of chips.

I am such a slob.

You 20+ milers...what do you eat for lunch?
I'm tending to do 40-60 miles/day depending on exactly how I'm feeling etc. I don't have 'lunch' but rather nibble on food through the day. Between getting to work & leaving work I'll consume a protein bar, 3 to 5 pieces of fruit, a large packet of crisps, ~100g of high coca content chocolate, a graze box & a sandwich or roll.

I only do 7.5 miles each way to an adult class at college, normally. Today was not normal - I left the key for my lock on the table and only realised after 2 miles... I get the same - you can't cycle that far response. When I point out that I cycled from the UK to the top of Norway, Nordkapp, down to Athens and on into Turkey last year, the response changes...
Despite that my mother is still kicking up a fuss about me cycling to my grandfather's 90th birthday meal tomorrow. 21 miles each way... Apparently I need to arrive with enough time to have a shower at her place! and am I going to be able to cycle home again after the meal?

Today's best question was about the muck thrown up off the roads when cycling (mostly passed the salt mines) as I was wiping my face down at the time, "isn't it yucky?", "much preferable to baby puke" nodding towards her shoulder...xx(

Oh and lunch - none. Class does not finish until 1pm and by the time I have changed and cycled home it is 2pm by which time I find I have missed that 12pm slot for lunch and just have a drink... breakie on the otherhand is homemade smoothie with plenty of ground seeds, ground nuts, ground porridge oats, soya yoghurt and fruit all thrown in with some sugar...

Hmm lunch
Not as healthy as some. But mines only 15 each way. I scour the deals at the supermarkets and take a few tins into work on the cage days. When I cycle, I like to keep the weight down. I'll just take a small container of cooked rice. Currently in my desk there are tins after the 'Princes' offer.
Chilli Con Carne (1)
Hot Chicken curry (2)
Chicken in white sauce (2)
Stick it together in the microwave. Hot dinner.
For snacking a couple of multipacks of 'Go Ahead' bicuits.
and rummaging through - I've just rediscovered some cup soups

I no longer do it, but I used to do a 21-23 mile commute (depending on route).

If I ate pizza at lunchtime, my ride home was destroyed.

If I ate pasta or fish & chips, it was fine.

I avoided choccy in the last hour of work, because it seemed to cause a 'rock-off-a-cliff' drop in energy about 10 miles into the ride.

A Snickers or a mars in the back pocket was insurance against that horrible 'empty legs' feeling 7 miles from home.

Breakfast was always porridge (made on an Aga) and was perfect for the ride in.

Supper was simply BIG. Anything and BIG. Then seconds.

Sandwich: lightly toasted 12 grain bread, 1/4 pound of deli meat (this week is roast beef), sliced sweet pepper, sliced hot pepper, slice of cheese (this week is Swiss), 6 tomato slices, two handfuls raw spinach leaves (goes next to the bread), mustard, and mayo.

I make them in the office kitchen. It takes me about 15 mins to toast and slice and arrange. It is worth every second. :hungry:

25 miles in and 9.3 back.

The only thing stopping the nay Sayers cycling is themselves.

yep, but the problem is that 'people', i.e non-cyclists, have it in their heads that from A to B is a long way. When my OH had a bad back, he was told to only take short walks, so we did just that. nothing more than 4 miles - just over an hour.. bacd back got worse. went back to Dr and was told that whilst it was fantastic that she had paitents who considered 4 miles a short walk, it was not the general definition of a short walk - our Drs idea of a short walk would not actually have allowed my OH to walk to the bottom of the track with the bins, let alone back again - our track was just around 3/4 mile long.

I remember being on a 30 mile Skyride when I met someone who I'd been at College with and I got talking about the fact that I'd cycle home from College in the evening, 16 miles of it (I'd have done 32 miles, but I always slept in in the mornings).

Their surprised reaction amused me, despite the fact that we were..... On a 30 mile ride...... And she was on a fixed!:laugh:

Like others, I do 5 miles each way and am met with looks of astonishment from colleagues, particularly if it's raining. This morning I announced that I was soon to do 100 miles in a day and the bacon sandwich fell out of my boss's mouth.

Wait till they ask, "what 100 miles in a day", "Nah, just over five hours". Heh heh.
