The Metric Century (100KM) A Month Challenge ChatZone

There were two flooded areas (one road, one cyclepath) on my ride where I basically took one look at them and immediately said "nope" and went the other way, but the three that I did go through were all short enough that I thought I'd be able to deal with it, plus they were roads I was familiar enough with that I was sure there weren't going to be any hidden potholes. And as my first detour essentially added on 4 miles to my route, I wasn't really keen on adding too much more - I ended up cutting some bits from my planned route to bring me back closer to the 100km I'd aimed for originally.

Looks like i will be doing the lunacy challange , forecast is cold and wet today and next weekend is iffy so far but we will have to see .
Woke up this morning and the hands and knee are aching .

Roads were very wet yesterday, but at least there was no ice One submerged bit for about 20 m, but I could see the bottom going down the middle of the road. Just did a loop around Rugby, ready to bail out if the forecast rain materialised, but fortunately it stayed dry

I like to imagine that January will feature at least one day without one of: ice, potential or actual; rain, beyond a light shower; winds in the 20-40mph range. Today's 100km trundle featured the last of those, which is the most manageable I think, but still far from welcome. The third of the route directly into the wind was ... quite laborious. Still, I was pretty much blown up and over the Cross of Greet at the end, which is very much a novelty, so there was at least that redeeming feature :-)

Hoping for kindly wind conditions when I tackle the Cross of Greet for the first time during LEJOG later this year. Have a feeling it won't be quite that kind to me though!

Realistically, that won't happen ;-) Unfortunately, the wind has to be pretty close to SE, which is not that common, since otherwise it somehow eddies around to make the effect very blustery, if not always an actual headwind. My partner did it on LEJOG a couple of years ago and enjoyed wind speeds over 40mph coming down it. Thankfully that is not really common and assuming you're doing it in something approximating to summer, it's generally fine. Also, it was rated by the group Mandy did LEJOG with as the best bit of the whole route.

It has fantastic scenery though, and never silly steep.

I managed a qualifying ride this weekend with the club, very mucky conditions out there around the Chilterns but good to be off the turbo.
