Purveyor of fine nonsense
Conversation earlier, by phone, with a collague who is several stones overweight and on several occasions in the past has said idiotic things like, "You wouldn't catch me on a bike, far too dangerous!", "I hate bloody cyclists, always getting in the way!", "I hate how they weave in an out of traffic when we're all waiting in line!" (etc, etc, etc):

Me: "I've just arrived, where are you?" (having just locked up the bike and waiting outside the building).

Her: "Oh, we arrived ages ago! You know you should have driven, it's much quicker!"

Me: "Oh! You're here! Good, where are you? I'm outside the door, I can't see you!"

Her: "We're trying to find a place to park".

Me: "Really? I've already parked, I thought you said driving was much quicker!"

Her: "Yeah, well, it would be if we could find a place to park!"

Me: "But you know that parking here is always a nightmare and it's expensive! And I've got here before you and paid nothing to park!"

Her: "Yeah, well, that's the council for you! Anyway, you're only as fast as the slowest person, so you'll just have to wait".

Had roughly the same conversation with #1 son on Saturday. Mightily surprised (and a little offended  ) that I got to Halfords before him on my elderly Dawes hybrid.

I'm waiting at the door, bike locked to the rack ................. and then he rolls up on his Kawasaki Ninja! Still has to park, still has to get his helmet off; we'd set off at the same time - and I'd even sat and waited for him to get kitted up!

Ach, it was less than a mile ----- but he DID go upstairs and look at some of the push bikes.

That was a class one liner though. Wouldn't want an argument with her.

I've out run colleagues in a car between sites, 4 miles apart, at lunch, same route down a 40 mph dual carriageway. We had set off the same time (I had 5 mins changing time), then we passed each other a few times, before I got through traffic, and was changed before they got in after parking.

Also like how cars miscalculate speed.. colleague caught me at 28mph, I had not the heart to tell him I can't get over 24 on the fixed without a hill or BIG tail wind....
