I was talking to my eldest about watching it when they were young, and they have absolutely no recollection (though to be fair I had completely forgotten about it too until this show).

This show has been essential viewing for my youngest and something we do together on a Sunday night (and suitable bribe material ... go on into the shower or else you can't watch it etc - why are some teenagers allergic to showers???).

It's normally a boy thing.

Hardly, nothing wrong with a collection of important historical reference works. I've got all the Looney Tunes box sets, most of the Hanna Barbera ones, Tex Avery, Tom and Jerry, etc., etc.

Found it an HMV years ago about a tenner.... even before Little-un was born (or even on the way), but he likes it as well.... he appreciates a true classic.....

Neither do the actors in this series. They're wearing hats that are consistent with the period.



Says who? It was common to portray men in paintings with moustaches - even when they didn't have one in real life. It was fashionable and supposed to make the subject look more 'masculine'.



Says who? The scarlet robes (or choir dress) for cardinals are/were worn only for public prayer. At other times cardinals, including Richelieu, would wear the Simar, which are black robes trimmed with scarlet.



Actually, French musketeers were routinely equipped with the musketeers sword as well as rapiers. And some rapiers were designed with quite broad blades and cutting edges for slashing as well - they weren't just thrusting weapons.

I blame my mother (a former national fencing champion) for my unhealthy knowledge of swords...

I was brought up and educated in France and studied history right through secondary school. All my years in school support my post, unless, of course, all my text books and teachers were wrong. I appreciate your comments but stick to my opinion.
