I was suprised a while back when I watched Cee-Low Greens "Forget you" video late one night. They replaced "Forget" with the other "F" word, but still dubbed out the N word.

the F word that Gordon Ramsay is so fond of is the correct and original lyric, it gets played like that all day long in spain, 'forget' is the "we can't cope with it / why do you have to be a complete prat cee-low, get a dictionary before writing" version.

There was an american in the crew, while the dam raid affected a small area of germany it was the equivalent of putting sheffield (think of all the steel works) out of action. They were making machinery and also synthetic oil and fuel, cut production did have some knock on effects.

yes, it got banded about for morale as did most other things that went well at the time.

The bouncing bombs that weren't used had no use as there were no other dams worth hitting, 617sq continued to do low level bombing, diving to 40ft in lancasters to drop markers before slamming the area with tallboys and grand-slam bombs which were as dangerous (some missions they were entire tonnes over weight taking off) as the original mission

To be honest, I'd imagine the relatives of all concerned are just embarresed the dog was called that in the first place.

they didnt need the bombs later though, tallboy was working  . even the smaller anti ship ones, which were intended for turpitz werent used because they'd hit the ship with tallboys..

Twice, despite having actually hit her the first time, shame the water wasn't deeper or they'd not have had to go back.

Apparently Peter Jackson intends to use relative unknowns as many of the crews were young men in their very early 20s. While they were predominantly British there were also New Zealanders, Australians (I think) and Americans in the crews.

sounds about right for the nationalities

Times change, word's meanings evolve, sometimes for the positive and sometimes for the negative. N***** is now a word of hate whether it's used by a black or white person (my daughter will not be using that word). And it needs to be out of the movie.

If you don't understand why this word is so offensive then you need to evolve and go study.

This nigger disagrees totally with that sentiment.

You need to perhaps understand that people of all races are capable of viewing the word in its historical context as well as in its modern context.

I thought that a nigger was just someone from Nigeria. The same way paki is someone from Pakistan, Scot from Scotland etc

Just as you felt free to express your views i feel as free to express mine.

I don't recognise your self appointment as judge of acceptable vocabulary.

Of course, in the realization and documentation of historic events the adherence to actual facts and terms, even if the words are offensive is critical. And while folks may cringe at the use of, what is now considered, an offensive word when reading about past events, it's important to learn and understand how things were. That's why I'm appalled by suggestions that Mark Twain's works be reprinted without offensive language. Even as works of fiction, they were written in the time and about the time and are an education of the time.

But in the dramatization of a historical event for the purposes of entertainment and profit, to be presented to a global audience, I think the removal of offensive language is justified and appropriate.

Actually, on the same theme of dishonest portrayals of the past (yes, yes, they have always been there etc etc), who was the geezer who had the cigarette removed from his image because that sort of thing "doesn't quite fit". Was it Bogart? I feel a Daily Mail moment coming on.

As the film is about things that bounce perhaps they should recast the part using this fella - assuming the "T-word" is okay.
