To lighten-up the film a bit maybe this bloke should take the role.

the role of the dog?

He wrote the theme tune and sang the theme tune, and married Rula Lenska so she could get a job in everything he did...and he designed the bouncing bomb. And taught all the pilots to fly. And served tea and crumpets. With home made butter.

Fairly essential to the movie. IMO.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested replacing the dog with a cat and calling it Ginger (which is after all an anagram) but that would no doubt attract the label of crypto-racist.

If the yanks don't like it they don't have to watch the film.

Exactly. I don't plan to watch 'U571'.

"Out of some 15 captures of Naval Enigma material during World War II, all but two were by the British – the Royal Canadian Navy captured U-774, and the U.S. Navy seized U-505 in June 1944. By this time the Allies were already reading Naval Enigma routinely...

...In 2006, screenwriter David Ayer admitted that U-571 distorted history and stated that he would not do it again. Ayer told BBC Radio 4's The Film Programme that he "did not feel good" about suggesting Americans captured the Naval Enigma cipher rather than the British"

Although I did enjoy 'Band of Brothers', an excellent and honest portrayal, it seemed to me.

I don't imagine they are. Back then, it was also just a word refering to dark colour. My Gran would refer to a specific colour of yarn as nigger brown. I don't know, but I suspect it had more negative connotations in America than over here at the at time. I seem to recall hering that British people were amazed when GIs came over, to find that there was segregation among them.

well yes, i'd have thought they'd rather the film didnt use that name because it makes a story about something which isnt really relevant. the brown colour thing is amazing though because it seems some chinese companies must have old dictionarys and have released items in 'nigger brown' , just amazing something would get this far without someone saying 'err thats not a good name' !

give gibson the benefit of the doubt and just say it was common parlance of the day..

( lets hope he didnt have a cat called c**n ;) )

pc gone mad, its a name , its only intent that would make it offensive,

It's not the intent that makes it offensive. It's the receiver's mind set that makes it offensive.

Words are only offensive if they are allowed to be offensive by the victims.

I can lay claim to membership of a whole raft of minorities embracing race and religion and I could if I choose, be offended at nearly anything uttered in jest and in anger.

I'm nearly always too busy: having a good time, having a laugh with pals, keeping my head above water financially, keeping up with the incessant changes in education legislation and provision and being a parent and husband to devote any time to be personally offended by offensive terms.
