As the American dream continues to spiral into a dystopian nightmare, a retrospective of its trajectory through its rich history of music seems appropriate.

This thread is for all the evocative, era-defining music that's come out of the states over the years; from the working-class optimism of the post war boom, the freedom and hope of '60s counterculture, the struggles of life inside booming, sprawling cities, the pain of sending a generation of young to a pointless death in foreign lands or the misery of post-industrial rust- belt decline...

In no particular order..

Shame I can't post any songs on this Chromebook.

Given the genre we’re on about I look upon that as a bonus.

Err, point of order (certainly not pedantry), neither Gordon Lightfoot nor Neil Young are ‘mercans.
Regardless of where they live or naturalized status.

And you'd have a point had the original post read "This thread is for all the evocative, era-defining music that's been written/sung by citizens of the states over the years" rather than "...for all the evocative, era-defining music that's come out of the states..."
